Dry Eyes
More and more people are suffering from dry eyes. The symptoms can manifest in a variety of ways, such as itchy, burning, tired, and red eyes, or a sensation of having a foreign body in the eye. Even if your eyes are watering, dry eyes may still be the underlying cause. There are various causes of dry eyes. For example, a disruption of the tear film, certain medications, medical conditions, or environmental factors (such as wind or cigarette smoke) can trigger these symptoms. Another major cause of dry eyes is the increasing use of digital media. Women are significantly more likely to develop dry eyes than men. Treatment is carried out using a stepwise approach. Initially, potential triggers in daily life are identified, such as smoking, contact lenses, working at a computer screen, or air conditioning. In addition, artificial tears in the form of drops, gel, or ointment are used. If dry eye is caused by inflammation of the eyelid margins, it is recommended to treat this through regular eyelid hygiene.
